Nosocomial infections are infections that develop when receiving healthcare, usually via invasive procedures, improper infection control or overuse of antibiotics. They pose an increased threat with the rise of antimicrobial resistance in the healthcare setting. It was a pleasure to talk to Dr. Alex Soriano (University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain) around his highlights from ECCMID, including new diagnostics in difficult to identify pathogens and new molecular testing in nosocomial infection.

What are the hot topics and highlights in nosocomial infection from ECCMID 2023? (0:12)
Well this ECCMID has been very well attended mass people and the program has been so nice and in particularly in nosocomial infections. I’m focused on bone and joint infections and there has been quite a lot of data on the new diagnostics in these particular infections that are sometimes difficult to identify the pathogen and the new molecular testing, it has been a really, really great new approach that it has been presented here with quite a lot of data.
