The Microbiology Society is a membership charity for scientists who are interested in microbes, their effects, and their practical applications. Our global membership includes people from universities, industry, hospitals, research institutes, schools, and other organisations.
Our members have a unique depth and breadth of knowledge in the field. The Society’s mission is to unlock and harness that knowledge by bringing together and empowering communities that shape the future of microbiology. We create public benefit by encouraging communication both among microbiologists and between microbiologists and other groups who can apply this knowledge in useful ways.
We work with academic institutions and industry partners to expand our reach and create opportunities for underrepresented groups in industrial and applied microbiology as well as the infection science community, both in the UK and internationally.
By doing this, we help our members connect with wider networks no matter what stage they are at in their careers and enable the opportunities that come from working together.
Our strategic partnerships include:
- Infection Science: Healthcare Infection Society (HIS), Federation of Infection Societies (FIS)
- Clinical Science: Association of Laboratory Medicine
- International Collaboration: Federation of European Microbiology Societies (FEMS)
- Early Career Engagement: Sense about Science
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Science and Health (EDIS), Royal Society of Biology Diversity and Inclusion Working Group (RSB DIWG)
From scientific meetings to public awareness campaigns, the Microbiology Society is committed to giving microbiology a strong, informed, and inclusive voice in addressing global challenges.
