Here at Touch Medical Media we are supporting World AIDS day (1st December 2021), to raise awareness and help improve health and wellbeing for patients living with HIV and AIDS.
We had the pleasure to talk to Dr Marta Boffito (Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Imperial College, London, UK) about HIV screening and early initiation of antiretroviral therapy, and what clinicians can do to ensure long-term adherence to therapy and sustained quality of life for people living with HIV.
Questions:
1. Why is early ART initiation important and how can it be achieved in clinical practice?
2. What are the barriers to antiretroviral therapy initiation and how can they be overcome to maximize adherence?
3. How does living with HIV affect quality of life and what factors negatively impact adherence to therapy in the long term?
Disclosures: Dr Marta Boffito has been a speaker/advisor for ViiV Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, Gilead, Mylan, and Cipla. Dr Marta Boffito has also received research grants from ViiV Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, Gilead, Mylan, Novavax, Valneva, and Roche.
