    Prof. Jens Lundgren

    Prof. Jens D Lundgren is professor of infectious diseases at the University of Copenhagen, Hvidovre, Denmark and a practising infectious disease specialist. He is also the director of the Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections (CHIP). read more

    Prof. Lundgren’s primary research interests are the clinical and public health aspects of HIV infection and its associated infectious and non-infectious morbidities.

    Prof. Lundgren heads PERSIMUNE, a 10-year study funded by the Danish National Research Foundation Centre of Excellence in 2015. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases-funded INSIGHT network, he chairs its scientific steering committee and is co-principal investigator for the START study (CHIP). He is chair of the steering committee for the D:A:D study. He is founder and current member of the steering committee for the EuroSIDA study and founder and current member of the steering committee of the HIV in Europe Initiative, focused on early testing and care for people living with HIV across Europe.

    Prof. Lundgren is also founder of the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) non-infectious comorbidity guidelines panel and was awarded the EACS Award for Excellence in HIV Medicine in 2015. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians, as well as honorary life-long member of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care. He is the co-editor-in-chief of HIV Medicine.

    Prof. Marta Boffito, MD, PhD, FRCP, is a consultant physician at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Imperial College London, UK. read more

    Prof. Boffito is the clinical director of HIV, sexual and gender health, and dermatology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where she runs numerous research projects and clinical trials (including COVID-19 vaccines and treatments). She also consults on complex pharmacological issues, sees patients with HIV (she founded the first HIV over-50-years clinic in London, UK) and teaches HIV medicine, infectious diseases and pharmacology at Imperial College London and in various national and international settings.

    Prof. Boffito trained in Italy, the USA and the UK, and has a special interest in antiviral drug pharmacology from prevention to treatment. In these areas, she contributes to the educational, scientific and guideline-formulation activities of national and international bodies including the British HIV Association and the World Health Organization. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, editorials and reviews.

    She has been involved in capacity-building programmes for resource-limited settings (e.g. Uganda) and is an applicant on numerous successful collaborative international grants.

    Ms Angelina Namiba

    Originally from Kenya, Ms Angelina Namiba has over 25 years of experience working in the HIV sector. read more

    Throughout her career, Ms Namiba has worked on different initiatives, which include providing one-to-one support to people living with HIV, treatment advocacy, managing service delivery, and facilitating, promoting and advocating for the involvement of women living with HIV in forming and informing local and national strategy and policy.

    Having lived with HIV for 30 years, Ms Namiba is a founding member of the 4M Network of Mentor Mothers, a programme that works with mentor mothers who are living with HIV. The programme trains them to support their peers in their pregnancy journey and for their professional development. She is the lead author of the 4M Mentor Mother Training Manual, and is also co-author of the recently published book Our stories told by us: Celebrating the African contribution to the UK HIV response.

    Ms Namiba also sits on various national and international advisory boards. She is a patron of the National HIV Nurses Association, a lay member of the Women’s Network of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, a member of the organizing committee of the annual International Workshop onHIV and Women, a community representative for the British HIV Association, and a trustee of the National AIDS Trust, Salamander Trust and SAFE Kenya. She has coauthored various articles in peer-review journals and Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS reports.

    • Assess the individual needs of newly diagnosed people living with HIV who are initiating ART
    • Apply shared decision making to select the most appropriate first-line ART regimen for people living with HIV
    • Use relevant monitoring strategies for people living with HIV receiving ART, to revise treatment regimen in line with changes in life and preferences
    Overview

    In this activity, two HIV specialists and an advocate for people living with HIV discuss the importance of optimizing antiretroviral therapy (ART) through an individualized approach to care and shared decision making. This discussion is guided by pre-canvassed questions provided by HIV specialists and genitourinary medicine/sexual health specialists.

    This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of HIV specialists, genitourinary medicine/sexual health specialists, HIV specialist nurses, pharmacists and clinical pharmacists.
